The Wheely Quiet Wheel

Well, it's been some time now since I got the new wheel I specified to my owners, in fact it's been a few years. And let me tell you that I and several of my cage mates have given these wheels some serious use and they are still going as strong as the day we first got them.

Firstly I'd like to let you know why I wanted this special wheel. Degus can suffer from a peculiar condition know as Bumblefoot. Yep, you read that right, Bumblefoot and boy oh boy can this be a very painful condition for us Degus. You see, when we're given one of those cheap nasty horrible wire wheels that you can pick up for next to nothing in a pet shop, we get Bumblefoot from running on those wires. Could you imagine walking on a pavement made from bars? It would hurt your feet too wouldn't it and what about if your foot went through the bars. Ouch. Heck, they call similar things cattle grids and they are designed to keep animals within a restricted area.

So, let me just get a little technical with you but not too much as I'm not too clever with techynical type things! The wheel I wanted making for me was to be lightweight, durable, easy to keep clean, and of course quiet. So my owners made it out of aluminium to fulfill the first three conditions and then made the wheel spin on a high precision ball bearing race to keep it quiet.

Oh, and there is a benefit to my owners too, the wheel is dead quiet, no squeaks, scrapes or rattles with this wheel. Heck, never mind my owners, it's good for us to have a quiet wheel too... you think it's bad for you guys, you should try living with a squeaky, scrapy and rattly wheel. Besides, it means that my owners can listen to my beautiful singing.

So how does it hold up after years of use by me and my cage mates? Wonderful. We're all nice and fit, totally free of Bumblefoot and none of us have gone deaf from squeaks as the wheel is still free from noise. Fabulous. So much so that I asked for another one to be installed in our home so that we could all have a go.

Perhaps your Degus would like a wheel or two of their own? No problem since my owners have been asked so many times now to make some that they've decided to offer them for sale direct to you all for just an astonishing £45. Just fill in the form below and Julie will get back to you.
